Cat 5 cable is unshielded wire containing four pairs of 24 gauge twisted copper pairs. The twisted pairs inside a Cat 5 cable reduce interference and crosstalk. CMP - Plenum rated for use in any area used for air return, many with dropped ceilings, air ducts and in public buildings where required by code.
CMR - Riser rated is generally acceptable for all indoor applications not requiring plenum cable.
CMX - Direct Burial rate is for outdoor use and may be directly buried in the ground, and offers protection from the sun's UV and water.
