DVR Remote Viewing Setup Guide
This guide will walk you through setting remote viewing over the internet for your DVR.
To begin you will need a broadband internet connection at the location of your DVR, DSL or cable, a PC with windows XP and a router.
This guide assumes the following:
You have a standard cable or DSL modem. Many ISPs(internet service providers) may provide you with a hybrid modem & router combo, these devices require additional configuration and are often already configured by your ISP. If you have one of these devices please contact your ISP's Technical Support for futher instructions.
You have a Linksys router. Our guide is best used with a Linksys router. If you do not have a linksys router additional router configurations are provided Here.
Remote viewing your DVR over the internet
Remote viewing allows you to view your cameras from any location that has a computer and is internet ready. To configure your DVR for remote viewing there is a number of steps you will need to complete. You will need to first configure your DVR with an Internal IP Address. Configuring your DVR with an Internal IP Address will allow your DVR to connect to the network and internet. Next you will need to configure your router to port forward to the DVR. Port forwarding allows you to configure inbound Internet connections to your router to be routed to specific devices on your network. For DVR systems, your router is configured to forward requests to your surveillance DVR. The IP address that you assigned to your DVR is an internal IP address (LAN) that normally can not be accessed from outside of your local network. We also recommend you setup the DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Service). DDNS will allow your DVR to be accessed over the internet using a website address(ie. http://mydvr.mydvr.net) instead of having to remember your external IP Address(ie. http://123.123.123.123). The other advantage of DDNS is your external IP Address maybe dynamic(can change), if your external IP Address changes the DDNS service will automatically update the website address you are using to access your DVR, where as if you didnt have DDNS you would have to find out the new external IP Address before you could access the DVR remotely again.
